Therapy To Go
Occupational Therapy, Delivered to Your Door
Daniel DiGiacomo became an occupational therapist after training at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, with clinical work at Staten Island University Hospital. He was drawn early to acute care, the hospital side of therapy, where he helped figure out what a patient could still do after a stroke or a fall. That interest carried him into home care, where he learned a different kind of confidence is required. There is no team down the hall to consult. It is just him, his training, and whatever the home in front of him looks like.
After years of working in assisted living communities for other companies, Daniel started Therapy To Go to build a practice on his own.
His focus as an occupational therapist is what is known as activities of daily living, the everyday tasks that keep someone independent in their own home. That might mean working on safe transfers in and out of bed, navigating stairs, getting dressed, or figuring out the safest way to manage a shower. A physical therapist works alongside him several days a week, and his goal is to eventually add speech therapy as well, so clients can get more of what they need from one connected team.
Much of the work happens outside of billed sessions. Daniel helps families sort through insurance coverage for equipment like walkers or hospital beds, and points them toward local resources, including charitable options, when cost is a barrier. He sees that kind of follow through as part of the job, not separate from it.
Daniel and his wife have called Hillsborough home for about six years, drawn here originally by the school district, where their kids are now growing up. At home, that also means keeping a flock of fifteen backyard chickens. Much of his client base right now stretches across central New Jersey, which means long days on the road. He is working to build a stronger presence closer to home, so more of his time goes toward the people he sees and less toward getting to them.
