Spera Electric

Wired for the Long Haul

Joe Spera has been working the electrical trade in Hillsborough since the 1980s. He came here for work, stayed for family, and eventually built something of his own. In 2005, after years running the electrical side of a local mechanical contracting company, Joe struck out on his own and founded Spera Electrical Contracting.

What started as a one-man operation out of his Manville home grew steadily through word of mouth. Joe has never been big on traditional advertising. He sponsors Hillborough High School sports and theater, supports local causes, and lets the work speak for itself. That approach has kept the phone ringing for decades.

Joe’s son Matt joined the business in 2019, and that changed everything about how Joe thinks about the future. What had been a question of how to eventually wind things down became a question of how to build something that lasts. The next chapter, as Joe sees it, isn’t five years out. It’s forty.

That longer view shapes how the business operates. Spera handles residential and commercial work across Central and South Jersey, with a particular reputation for whole-home generator installation and service. Customers consistently mention the crew by name, noting their professionalism, patience, and willingness to explain what they’re doing. The office staff draws praise of its own, with customers noting how well they’re kept informed from scheduling through job completion.

Joe has been a member of Rotary International for over 3 decades. Spera Electric is also a proud member of The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), New Jersey Electrical Contractors Association (NJECA), and Four County Electrical Contractors Association. The company License # is 12101.

His advice to anyone shopping for an electrician: ask questions. How someone answers tells you what you need to know.

Spera Electric is top-of-the list in my contractor book. They have a broad command of both residential and commercial issues in all types of problems. Their staff is prompt and courteous. They actually explain (in laymen’s terms, to the extent possible) what needs to be done so there are no surprises. All done at a reasonable price and in most expedient time. Five stars!
