Hillsborough Massage Therapy

Built by Athletes, Guided by Experience
Kathy Letterman and her business partner Gary met in massage school and discovered they were neighbors in Hillsborough. That coincidence became the foundation for something lasting. After graduating, the two started out making house calls, but quickly learned that not everyone wanted therapists coming to their home. They rented space, found a suite, and in 2004 Hillsborough Massage Therapy officially planted roots in the town they called home. Kathy has since moved, but the commitment to staying here never wavered.
Gary has since passed away, but his fingerprints are all over what the practice became. He was a triathlete who completed Ironman events. Kathy was a runner who ran her first marathon at the 2013 Boston Marathon and eventually moved on to ultra marathons. Their athletic backgrounds shaped the kind of work they pursued from the start. When clients came in with runner’s injuries or triathlete fatigue, the team didn’t just treat the symptoms. They understood them.
That same principle extends across the whole practice today. Hillsborough Massage Therapy operates as a group practice with a team of therapists working together under one name. Every therapist brings a personal athletic or professional background that informs their specialty. One therapist’s background in dentistry led her to specialize in TMJ dysfunction. Another’s years on the golf course shaped her understanding of the aches golfers carry. Kathy herself has done rock climbing, bodybuilding, and jiu-jitsu. When a client describes their sport, someone in this practice has likely lived a version of it.
The therapists here are all licensed by the State of New Jersey, and two hold additional board certification from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, a credential Kathy describes plainly: the test is hard. The practice offers a wide range of modalities, from relaxation and sports massage to orthopedic work, rehabilitative massage, whiplash injury treatment, manual lymphatic drainage, and TMJ therapy. Referrals flow in regularly from local physical therapists, Princeton Orthopedics, and area chiropractors, and the practice sends clients back the other way too.
This is not a spa. Kathy is direct about that. The goal of every session is results, and the work is done in close coordination with the broader healthcare community.
For years, Hillsborough Massage Therapy sponsored the Resolution Run and stayed visible at health fairs and pre- and post-race events. Community presence has always mattered here, and Kathy is focused on building it back after a period of recalibration following Gary’s passing.
New clients are encouraged to ask every question they have. Good therapists, Kathy will tell you, should be able to explain what they are doing and why.

I went for the first time in order to recover from my marathon and I can’t recommend this place enough. Small, inviting and well priced, it was definitely worth the time and money. Arlene did a great job of being communicative and respectful during the whole massage. She explained everything she was working on and potential issues with certain muscle groups. It allowed me to work out not only post marathon muscle fatigue but existing tensions in my back and legs.
Overall, I’d highly recommend, especially if you are an athlete as they have a great wealth of experience and knowledge with athletic massages.
